Reduce, Reuse, Recycle at Stitch! 16.06.23

“Reduce, reuse, recycle!” Something we all want to do more of and totally embraced in this week’s Sewing Bee. Zero waste trousers! Brilliant idea. Mia & Matthew aced the totebag remake. We thought Asmaa and Lizzie had great colour combinations & the precision of Asmaa’s sleeves were fabulous.
If using up scraps of material is on your to do list we are pleased to say that we have a new class coming up of English Paper Piecing, with our expert quilters Carol Balfe and Susan Mehmet. The workshop will be an introduction to the craft and you will be able produce a cushion cover or bag of your choice using hexagon templates. 100% cotton fabric is ideal and can be bought at Stitch in fat quarter sizes, or bring your own pieces.
You can make beautiful quilts with this method or alternatively a table runner, mats or even a dress, jacket or up-cycle something that has been forgotten in your closet! Come and join us with your own ideas of how you can use English Paper Piecing and we’ll help you turn them into beautiful items to treasure or to give as handmade gifts.
Back to the Sewing Bee from Wednesday. Who would be brave enough to attempt the crochet remake? Gosh, hard sewing indeed. The crochet culottes did look genius through. And despite looking a little bulky and warm for this weather Mia’s jacket and skirt really did look fabulously creative.
As Patrick pointed out crochet is having a real moment so if it’s a skill you’d love to learn come and get involved. We have just released new dates for our 2-part Beginners Crochet on Saturday 15th July & 22nd July, 10-12pm, everything is provided in the class to get you crocheting.

Thank you Alex McHallam for a fabulous mosaic class on Sunday. We are looking to schedule another one soon. And big thanks to Age UK, we presented at their Ageing Well event in Enfield on Wednesday. Crafting has been proven to keep your brain mentally active as we get older and is such a calming and therapeutic activity and we enjoyed spreading the word.
