IT TAKES TWO TO TUTU!
We were thrilled to find out that Nadira and Liz’s fabulous tutus they sewed and embroidered for Flamingo Chicks are being displayed at Jonn Lewis in Bristol. Flamingo Chicks is a multi award-winning charity and inclusive community giving disabled and all children the opportunity to explore movement through dance. 15 celebrities were asked to design imaginative tutus and Nadira and Liz were part of an army of volunteers who made their designs into real tutus, one for grown ups and the other child sized. The tutu above was designed by Briony May Williams a celebrity chef and presenter. Each of the tutus are available to own by making a donation.
Flamingo Chicks’ crowdfunder has raised over £25,000 at last counting so far. So inspiring and a fabulous cause. Thank you Nadira and Liz for your time and effort, someone is going to be very delighted dancing in these. What do we think of the other celebrities tutus?
DEMYSTIFYING SEWING PATTERNS
Even the Sewing Bee contestants struggle with reading sewing patterns as we saw with poor Suzy this week. You’ve no need to- join Pat for a masterclass in learning your way around a commercial dress pattern and demystify those first steps in dressmaking.
This class will include an explanation of the language and the symbols used to transfer the important elements around the construction of a 3-D garment. Pat will explain notches (balance marks), positioning of darts, embellishments- pockets and trim. There will be an explanation of "tailors tacking" and how you transfer marks onto your fabric. Pat will also explain step by step the mysterious but essential pattern primer. You will construct part of a garment eg a sleeve, using a pattern in the workshops. All materials and sewing machines are provided.
