We love linocutting! Thank you so much Jacqueline for running our first linocutting workshop at Stitch on Thursday evening. It was so much fun, fabulously creative as well as being so relaxing. Linocut printmaking is an artistic process using a linocut which is a type of relief print. An image is first carved into a block of lino, then ink is rolled onto the uncut surface of the block and paper is then laid on top of the block and pressure is applied to produce a print. The actual material ‘linoleum’ was invented by Frederick Walton in the mid-1800’s. At that time, its main use was that of a floor material and then in the 1800’s as actual wallpaper. By the 1890’s artists had started to use linocutting and printing as an artistic medium and today there is some beautiful work out there. We love following some of the brilliant artists on Instagram like Elina Adrshina (elina.artist is Instagram tag). Take a look. We can’t wait to run another lino cutting in September, new date coming soon!
