Happy Friday!
Morning! We had a fabulous day here at Stitch on a Sunday creating beautiful pieces during a mindful hand sewing day. Our participants learned how to start English Paper Piecing (EPP), creating hexagons and sewing them together using colour and pattern to create new fabrics out of scraps of material. The day was rated 10/10 by all participants. Susan, Pat and Carol wondered if it was more to do with the cakes provided but I know that it’s the warm, welcoming and reassuring teaching that they provide. Thank you ladies:)
We are hoping to run more patchwork paper piecing workshops with other geometrical shapes this autumn, please let us know if you are interested.

So Asmaa came out on top winning Sewing Bee this week. What a brilliant end to the series and such a fantastic final dress from a well deserved winner. As Patrick quite rightly said “Her final gown was spectacular! I'm not sure I've ever seen anything quite so special on Sewing Bee.” And we agree- her two-in-one reveal dress, such a flattering blue dress literally floated into another transformation using hooks revealing an elegant green ball gown - wow!
And we loved listening to the participants’ top tips on Instagram this week - (if you don’t follow they are at @britishsewingbee)
“For beginner sewers the tip I would give would be aim on completing something rather than perfecting” says Tony. Exactly, you learn something new from every make.
Gillie- “It’s the fabric that’s so important, you get your inspiration from the fabric, you’ve got to like the fabric.” A good excuse to browse and plan your next makes online or in Stitch dare we say!
Lizzie- “If you’re not confident with your sewing machine a really great thing to do, look around in your community, to see if there’s any sewing groups or a fabric shop because quite often they run workshops that might be two or three hours. Intro to your sewing machine for example. Its really great and you’ll meet other sewers and you can swap tips” That’s us!
We couldn’t agree more with all their advice so if you are feeling as inspired by the Sewing Bee as much as we always are please pop in and see us to chat about our classes or browse our website, as we have so much to offer.
