Two spaces available on Kids Easter Holiday Finger Knitting and Crochet Club this Friday at Stitch!

We hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and feel rested.
Looking forward to longer evenings and more spring like weather now!

We felt it was time to run another top making workshop with the fabulous seamstress Nadira Dean. Here is the top you will make in our lovely turquoise Makower Folk Friends fabric. In this class you will learn step by step instructions on how to use sewing patterns, how to prepare fabric and lay patterns on to cut out, sewing patterns to your size, the order to sew your garment up. You will also be covering: How to use facing (interfacing); sewing darts; back key hole and loop; stitching and fitting in sleeves; side splits; finishing edges and hemming. So lots of fabulous sewing skills.

Spaces on workshops 

We have plenty of spaces available on our upcoming Macrame class to learn to make a plant hanger, Saturday 22nd April, 1-3pm. Jen Pullar, who runs small local business @the_knot_pullar told us “I love being able to bring plants inside this time of year. Having springs of blossom and my houseplants on display in my macramé hangers reminds me to appreciate nature, growth and renewal." All materials, coffee, tea and biscuits provided and you will go home with a new skill as well as a completed hanger to put your favourite plant on display.

And there is still time to book our Learn to Sew A Kimono class this Saturday with Pat so don't be shy we would love to see you!

Learn to sew a Kimono with the fabulous Pat Stevens! Skills you will learn include:  how to lay out your fabric and cut it; French seams; binding; learn to cut from pattern (choice from small medium large); learn to construct a garment; pattern matching if using pattern. This is a perfect class for beginners to garment making. You must already be proficient at using a machine before taking this class. This is an adults only class.

Brighten up your wardrobe with a simple top and be proud that you made it yourself! Come join us at Stitch and learn how to make this shell top with expert seamstress and pattern cutter Nadira. In her class she will demystify the sewing pattern by teaching you how to how to read it, place it correctly on your fabric and cut your pattern ready for sewing. You will construct a very stylish shell top that is flattering for any body type. It can be made in a variety of fabrics and can be extended to make a dress.

Come and learn how to cover a book with us. Beautify a plain ordinary book into something fabulous with just a few stitches! Create something personal and individual for yourself or as a gift for a loved one with our talented seamstress Pat. Please bring along a book you would like to cover on the day. You can bring along your own fabric to use or purchase some from our shop before the class starts. Any fabrics would work for this project. This is a class for adults able to use a sewing machine. Light refreshments and biscuits will be provided. All sewing equipment apart from fabric provided.

With Pat Stevens. Are you a complete sewing beginner looking to make sense of how to use a sewing machine? This is a one-off class for beginners perfect for you! You will- Learn your way around the workings, parts and components of a sewing machine. Learn how to set up and thread a machine and how to wind a bobbin. Learn how to set the correct tension. Learn how to sew straight seams. Changing the needle. You will practice some stitching in order to gain the skills you need to tackle your future projects.

At Stitch's latest 2 hour crochet workshop we will focus on how you can use colour and texture to create unique and beautiful designs with a simple granny square. The workshop will also focus on forming a square, switching colours, joining techniques and making tassels. If you have completed Beginners Crochet with us or have basic crochet skills, like to have fun experimenting with design and colour and potentially new yarns, this is for YOU!

Need some one on one lessons in crochet or knitting? If you are complete beginner needing to learn your knit from your purl or have that project that you are in the middle of or one your are raring to start. Our amazing goddess of wool Kay Dudman will be able to teach and guide you at any level. When you are finished you will gain the confidence to deal with that drop stitch and those increasing or decreasing nightmares will be a thing of the past. Kay's one on one classes will give you extra boost to face those new patterns head first.

Come and join us here at Stitch and learn Mosaic Crochet with the wonderful Kay Dudman. This is a technique that gives you the opportunity to use two different colours without changing wool. You can create beautiful geometric designs with whatever colour combinations you like. During this workshop you will be working on a panel learning the basic techniques that you can continue at home to make a blanket or you can incorporate it into other projects.

This a brilliant introduction for kids to learn to finger knit and crochet. Crochet and knitting have been proven to have therapeutic and stress relieving benefits and are a fabulous, creative hobby (no previous experience is necessary).

Kids will be taught from their start point whether that is absolute beginner or if they have already got some crochet skills. If more than one session is booked then each session will build on what is done at the previous session. This course is for children aged 8-18 years only.

Jill will be joining us at Stitch for an evening teaching a 2 hour introduction on free motion embroidery. In this class she will be sharing tips and tricks for beginners and refreshers on learning how to use this wonderful technique to create visually stunning pieces. Jill will also share with you her expert knowledge on dissolvable fabrics and films. You will leave with the knowledge to then create unique pieces for yourself or handcrafted gifts for your loved ones or use your new skills embellishing what you already have at home! All the materials and equipment will be provided on the evening. We will also provide a selection of fabrics for you to choose from, the use of our Janome machines as well as refreshments and a warm, creative environment, so just bring yourselves!

Join us at Stitch to make a one of a kind box that can be used as a gift for a friend or a loved one or keep it for yourself as storage in your own home. This box can be covered with a variety of papers, prints or even fabric for a personalised finish to suit the occasion or person it’s for. You don’t need any kind of experience to take part in this class just come along and join us for a few hours of crafting at Stitch! You will leave with a wealth of knowledge and confidence to recreate one of a kind boxes for years to come.

Learn to Make a Teddy Bear with local artist Susan Mehmet, £50.00
This is an introduction to making a teddy bear with movable joints. In this course you will learn the basics of how to sew and design a 17mm or 7 inch teddy bear from mohair fabric, glass eyes and metal movable joints. If you cant make this date but are still interested in this class then please get in touch and we can arrange for another date.
