Stitch! is ready to celebrate Queen's Platinum Jubilee!

GET THE BUNTING OUT! IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE!

We are nearly ready, are you? The post office windows are adorned with our Warhol inspired stamp art and our Community Jubilee Collage is being sewn together by the wonderful Jill as we speak. We are immensely proud of all the contributions from our local community including - West Grove Primary School, Broomfield Secondary School, Azalea Court Care Home, St. Johns Church, 6th Palmers Green Guides and members of our local stitching community. 

The first unveiling of their masterpiece will be on Wednesday evening at Stitch! from 6-8pm, please join us and celebrate the fabulous creativity of Enfield. There are over 85 uplifting pieces stitched into our commemorative collage. We hope you can join us to kick off the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations! Here is a list of the places you will be able to see our collage in June and July.

We have a metre or so left of the beautiful purple crowns fabric made for a customers daughter above, so cute!

New sewing classes added this week include three Sewing Techniques Workshops- inspired by the Sewing Bee including inserting pockets, zips and shirring. We also have added a sew a summer skirt and a summer dress workshop. 
 

SEWING & PATCHWORK

Come along with a simple item or garment you are currently making, adjusting or starting and that you need help from Pat with. This is a continuous running class which you can book week to week. We have Janome sewing machines for you to use, cutting mats, scissors and rotary cutters.

This is an introduction to patchwork course for sewers/ quilters starting out or continuing your journey in patchwork machine sewing. In this course you will learn the basics of how to make a patchwork cushion, wall hanging or lap quilt. You will ideally be proficient on a sewing machine.

Are you a complete sewing beginner looking to make sense of how to use a sewing machine? This is a one-off class for beginners perfect for you! Hosted by expert seamstress Pat Stevens. You will earn your way around the workings, parts and components of a sewing machine, learn how to set up and thread a machine and how to wind a bobbin and learn how to set the correct tension. Learn how to sew straight seams, change the needle, use a zipper foot and a 1/4 inch seam foot. You will practice some stitching in order to gain the skills you need to tackle your future projects.

Are your favourite garments becoming unwearable with holes and frays? Are you keen to learn how to repair them rather than buy new ones? We are all learning more about the resources required to make our clothes and the problems of ‘fast fashion’. Give your garments a longer life and learn how to repair them in this 2 part workshop using the Japanese art of visible mending: Sashiko.

Inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee? Come along and join us at Stitch for this short course on learning how to do this decorative gathering to add to your garments. With this technique you can shrink fabric and transform it into something stretchy and creating texture using elastic thread. This can be used on bodices, waistbands and cuffs. With knowledge of this sewing skill under your belt you are one step closer to making making those summer dresses for the upcoming season!

A perfect skirt for all shapes and sizes. This summer skirt is a good all rounder and always on trend. A great project for any ability and by the end of the class you will have a finished skirt that would be a great addition to your summer wardrobe. Ever wished that certain pieces in your wardrobe had pockets? Well! come on down to Stitch to learn how to add pockets to your garments! Within this short course our expert Pat Stevens will concentrate on working to samples of various pockets for functional and decorative use on trousers, dresses or skirts. By the end of this course you will never look sadly at an un-pocketed garment again! You will be confident and brave enough to add them where ever they are needed.

Are you looking for something crafty to do in the Half Term holidays? We at Stitch are offering a drop in session for you to come in and do crafts with your little ones. Come and have a laugh, make a special keepsake you can keep or give as a gift to someone special. (This is not a workshop)

There will be two sessions:

Tuesday 31st May 11am - 4pm: Yarn Wrapped Crowns or No-sew bunting.
Wednesday 1st June 11am - 1pm: Yarn wrapped Crowns or No-sew bunting.

You don’t need to bring anything just yourselves. This is a drop-in session with your child, no need to book in advance (children are not allowed to be left unattended at anytime).
