Happy International Women's Day from Stitch! 8.03.24

Happy International Women's Day, everyone. A day (and weekend with it being Mothers Day too) to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of women around the world from the unsung to the recognised.

Needlework, sewing, quilting, embroidery in the history of arts and crafts may not have been deemed worthy artistic equivalents to the grand mediums of painting and sculpture in the past but we know differently and hope that times are changing for our future generations- we for one applaud all our teachers and community who have made so many sewn, embroidered, crafted, knitted and crocheted masterpieces in our time at Stitch.

Keep enjoying, keep creating, keep bonding through the medium of craft, we recognise and appreciate your worth and love you all for it.

STITCH FUNDRAISER & ST. JOHN’S CHURCH FLEA MARKET

We are really looking forward to having a table of our amazing crafting items at the St. John’s church hall flea market tomorrow 1-5pm. We hope to see you there if you have time to pop down.

And we continue the celebratory spirit the following week where will be hosting our Stitch! fundraiser day, Saturday 16th March, 10-3pm in the shop organised by the fabulous Susan with all our beautiful hand made crafts by our amazing crafting community to raise funds to keep Stitch going during these difficult economic times. Kay will be here from 1-3pm running a help desk, for a small donation she will help advise you on your knitting and crochet problems and questions.

We are so grateful for everyone’s efforts and the support we are receiving.

TATTING

We would love to have some more takers for our Tatting workshop this Thursday evening with Kay. Tatting is a technique for handcrafting a particularly durable lace from a series of knots and loops. Tatting can be used to make lace edging as well as accessories such as earrings and necklaces, and other decorative pieces like doilies and collars.

Although there are only a few techniques to learn, making it quick to master, the combination of rings, chains and picots offers a wide variety of designs in this dainty but surprisingly hardwearing lace. All that is needed to get started is a tatting shuttle and crochet cotton, although it is sometimes useful to have a small size crochet hook as well, if your tatting shuttle does not have a hook. A tatting shuttle is provided in class fee for you to take home. All materials in class are provided to work with.
