Half Term Kids fun at Stitch! 9.02.24

Kids are out- it’s half term! January is over and it already feels a little lighter earlier each day as we approach spring.

We are really excited to be launching a new Dressmaking Next Steps workshop with pattern cutter/ designer teacher Nadira Dean for three weeks starting on Thursday 22nd Feb, 7-9pm. Book all three of these classes for 10% less than booking individually or book each workshop individually.

In the first week Nadira will be looking at how to finish seams covering: welt seam, fell seam, french seam, plain seam, open seam & pipping.

The following week you will look at sewing with a variety of pockets (we love pockets!) curved or slash shaped inset pocket, side seam/ inseam pocket & patch pockets. And on Thursday 7th March 7-9pm - Zips. In this workshop Nadira will explain and demonstrate the different ways to insert a variety of zips for different garments. Dressmaking will feel a lot less daunting if you can attend these classes we hope.

STITCH FUNDRAISER

As most of you realise times are very tough for small, community businesses like ours during this current cost of living crisis. Unfortunate events like the break-in before Christmas and the loss of some of our crafting stock caused by a visiting fox of all things certainly haven’t made life any easier. In light of this, Susan one of our many wonderful teachers has asked for your help and for that we are truly grateful…here in her own words are what she is planning…

“Dear Friends of Stitch, I am making some handcrafted items to sell in a craft selling event at Stitch to raise funds in March and I’d like to ask for your help.

Stitch takes pride in actively supporting the community through various initiatives. The shop hosts events and workshops, fostering a sense of community engagement and creativity. Stitch! collaborates with local artisans, providing them a platform to showcase their talents and contribute to the unique offerings at Stitch. Stitch's commitment extends beyond the shop, ensuring that their success positively impacts the well-being of the community they call home. But business is very tough at the moment for small businesses like Stitch as I’m sure you are aware.

Ensuring the success of Stitch not only sustains a vibrant craft hub but also contributes to the ongoing support for the community. Encouraging local patronage, spreading the word about Stitch's unique offerings, and participating in community events hosted by the shop are effective ways to keep this valuable establishment running and making a positive impact. Your support plays a crucial role in maintaining Stitch's commitment to both crafts excellence and community well-being.

Your support could directly impact both the local business and the community initiatives Stitch undertakes. Together, I would love to be able to create a sustainable source of funds to keep both Stitch and community support flourishing.

If you would like to contribute and help Stitch to continue their amazing work and support in the local community,  all I am asking if you feel able to contribute is for one handcrafted item you have made to be donated to Stitch for a craft selling event I am running on the 16th March at the shop.

If you feel able to make something your donations can be brought to the shop during the next few weeks and I and Stitch would be so extremely grateful. Thanking you in advance if you feel able to support and if not we  hope to see you at the shop soon or on the 16th March for our fundraiser where we hope to make money selling some wonderfully crafty items.😊”

Thank you Susan, always grateful for yours and all the support of our teachers and staff at Stitch who go above and beyond to keep Stitch! going.
