We were delighted to celebrate our first week in our new shop with a brilliant article featuring Stitch and our superstar seamstress Pat in the
Daily Telegraph. Rosa Silverman came to us in December to learn to sew and mend and was delighted with the results. It is heartening to hear about the number of repair cafes opening up throughout the country and that "John Lewis reports a significant increase in haberdashery sales compared with last year observing that buying habits suggest “our customers are certainly taking a ‘make do and mend’ approach at the moment”.
So let's make this repairing revival happen locally is what we say!

king of mending we have a great darning workshop coming up at the end of the month. In just a few hours with Tricia you will able to learn to mend and repair those holes creatively and add a bit of interest using Swiss and woven darning techniques.

Liz was very pleased with herself on Sunday as she learnt how to completely remove the waist band of her jeans, adjusted and reattached the waistband to make them fit perfectly.

Sew and Make with Seamstress Pat! Wednesday 18th January, 11-1pm, £30

Come along with a simple item or garment you are currently making, adjusting or starting and that need help with. This is a continuous running class which you can book week to week where you can choose what you want to make and Pat will assist you making. Not suitable for beginners dressmaking.

This is an Introduction to patchwork course for sewers/ quilters starting out or continuing your journey in patchwork machine sewing. In this course you will learn the basics of how to make a patchwork cushion, wallhanging or lap quilt. You will ideally be proficient on a sewing machine.

Are you a complete sewing beginner looking to make sense of how to use a sewing machine? By popular demand we have scheduled this evening workshop with Nadira Dean, an expert seamstress and pattern cutter with over 30 year of sewing experience. She has enjoyed working with fashion designers such as Alice Temperley, M&S, Top Shop and Dorothy Perkins. Nadira also runs her own craft brand called Sew with Your Heart (see Etsy for her fabulous makes).


 You will learn your way around the workings, parts and components of a sewing machine. Learn how to set up and thread a machine and how to wind a bobbin. Learn how to set the correct tension. Learn how to sew straight seams. Changing the needle. Using a zipper foot and a 1/4 inch seam foot. You will practice some stitching in order to gain the skills you need to tackle your future projects.


Learn to Make A Winter A-line or Pencil Skirt! Saturday 21st January 10-2pm

This is an intermediate sewing class on how to accurately cut out and adjust a pattern to make yourself a take-away home skirt. You will learn to create a fitted skirt using pleats that will shape it beautifully around your curves. You will also learn to create a fitted waistband, how to insert a zip fastening and finish off by neatly hemming your skirt.

With expert seamstress Pat Stevens. You will learn to make a 14 inch square tote bag. A great class for beginner sewers or graduates from our Learn to Use a Sewing Machine to make a useful item. As long as you can use a sewing machine this is the class for you to advance your dressmaking skills.We will provide fabric for the main body of the bag and lining. If you would like to buy fabric from our shop you can.

Darning Workshop!
Saturday 4th February, 10:30-12:30, £35.00

In this class with Tricia you will be focusing on learning the basics of Darning which is a way to mend and reinforce holes. Darning is a technique that uses a needle and various yarns to interweave to close holes and fix weaker areas of the garment. It is perfect for mending jumpers, scarves, socks even school uniforms! or any other knitted items of clothing. This workshop we will be focusing on hand darning using two techniques

Swiss darning 

Woven darning

You will be provided with a needle, yarns to use in the class and if you do not have any holey items to bring in we will be providing samples for you to learn on. Refreshments biscuits and a warm creative environments will be available.

Join Carol and Susan to learn the basics of modern machine quilting!

In this 6 hour workshop you will learn skills that include choosing which fabrics are suitable, rotary cutting, creating a patchwork, layering the quilt, quilting the layers together and finishing off with adding a binding. The design will be based on a patchwork made of squares. It is recommended that you are experienced with using sewing machine. Otherwise, no previous quilting experience is required.

Our amazing goddess of wool Kay Dudman will be able to teach and guide you at any level. When you are finished you will gain the confidence to deal with that drop stitch and those increasing or decreasing nightmares will be a thing of the past. Kay's one on one classes will give you extra boost to face those new patterns head first.

Wanting to know what to do with left over greeting or Christmas cards left over from December? Come join us for a morning of crafting with our very own Pat Stevens. Cut, fold, glue and embelish some new cards and go and go away with new and usable cards. We provide everything including a warm space and refreshments.

Learn to Make a Teddy Bear with local artist Susan Mehmet, £50.00
This is an introduction to making a teddy bear with movable joints. In this course you will learn the basics of how to sew and design a 17mm or 7 inch teddy bear from mohair fabric, glass eyes and metal movable joints. If you cant make this date but are still interested in this class then please get in touch and we can arrange for another date.

or Learn to Make A Keepsake box with local artist Susan Mehmet, 3-4 hour workshop, £40
Join us at Stitch to make a one of a kind box that can be used as a gift for a friend or a loved one or keep it for yourself as storage in your own home. This box can be covered with a variety of papers, prints or even fabric for a personalised finish to suit the occasion or person it’s for. You don’t need any kind of experience to take part in this class just come along and join us for a few hours of crafting at Stitch! You will leave with a wealth of knowledge and confidence to recreate one of a kind boxes for years to come.
