Knitting Workshop: Magic Loop Socks, Saturday 17th May 10:30-12:00 at Holy Trinity Church, Winchmore Hill, N21.

🧶✨ Ready to master the Magic Loop? Join our Magic Loop Sock Knitting Class and learn how to knit socks with just one long circular needle—no double points needed! This technique will change the way you knit socks forever.

Join us in Winchmore Hill and learn this MAGIC technique with the talented Alison and take your knitting to the next level.

This method allows you to knit quite small sizes with one long circular needle. It is particularly useful for knitting hats because you will not need to change on to double pointed needles at the end, you can continue with the same needle. With socks you will not need to re-arrange stitches to do the heel.

In this workshop we will learn the basics of magic loop and how to get started. We will work on a mini sock that includes all the techniques needed to knit a full size sock. The workshop also includes a pattern to make a full size pair of socks at your own pace.

For this workshop you will need a 2.75mm or 3mm circular needle of at least 80cm in length.

This workshop is suitable for knitters with a little experience but you do not need to be an expert.

Circular needle advice- As with most things, the better quality the needle the easier it will be to work with. The best needles are those that have a smooth join with no angles and a cord that is flexible. There are some that have a steel thread with a nylon coating and others that allow the needle to turn, both of these stop the cord from twisting too much. Try to avoid needles that have a bend in them as they are not as easy to slide stitches along.

After unpacking your needle you need to get the cord as straight as possible. An easy way to do this is to put it into a bowl of hot but not boiling water. Leave it for about 5 minutes and then take out and dry it a way that straightens is a bit. It can be repeated if the cord hasn’t straightened enough. When storing the needle try not to wind it into a tight coil again because it will simply remember it’s old shape.
